Grindelwald marbles

In 2010, I started to work with marble from Grindelwald, a village in the Swiss Alps, we have been visiting regularly since the early eighties. Although there once was an active marble quarry, that site has been closed already in 1903. Through the hotelier Thomas Stettler in "our" Parkhotel Schoenegg, we came into contact with several local mountain guides, who do collect this very special Grindelwald marble. They find little (and bigger) boulders in the open fields, where they once were deposited by glaciers. Its is a very colourful breccia marble, and below you can see my confrontations with this Alpine rock over the years. For more information about these beautiful marble stones, see the website
"Gesteinsdatenbank".
